The position of Industrial Hygienist, with SOC LLC, A Day and Zimmermann Company, is located at the Hawthorne Army Depot, near the modest, west central Nevada, “High-desert, mountain-side”, community of Hawthorne. Hawthorne Army Depot, known as “The Largest ammunition storage facility in the world,” is centrally located near the modest community of Hawthorne, Nevada, at the base of 11,000 ft. Mt. Grant and at the south end of large and historical Walker Lake on Highway 95. We are located within a comfortable 1 to 2 hour drive of numerous communities and cities, located in Northern Nevada and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Sparks, all of which offer abundant opportunities and access to high quality shopping, recreation, health care, education and entertainment.

  • Oversees and administers the Industrial Hygiene program to include the Lead, Asbestos and Ergonomic Safety Programs. Works with various site leadership and other personnel to establish standards and procedures to insure personnel are protected from hazardous material exposures. Leads the Asbestos and Lead Program and serves as the chairperson for the Lead/Asbestos Hazard Management Team.Participates in team-based ergonomic evaluations, and performs and coordinates office ergo evaluations.

  • Developes and recommends personnel protective equipment standards/requirements and engineering controls to control physical/chemical exposures at HWAD. Performs sound level measurements for suspected noise hazardous areas and maintain the hearing conservation program in coordination with the Occuaptional Clinic.Develops communications and assists supervision in educating employees on occupational health and safety procedures and precautions.

  • Maintains a list of toxic substances in use on site and provides advice regarding proper precautions as needed. Provides exposure information to the clinic for medical surveillances of employees exposed to hazards. Monitors areas with possible toxic dust, fumes, aerosols, gases and vapors to determine extent or severity of possible exposures. Maintains listing of eye hazard areas and advises about proper precautions.Writes and updates safety and health manuals and procedures. Performs audits and inspections. Works independently and with teams.

  • Reviews, recommends, develops and oversees implementation of approved safety and health policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations and orders from regulating entities (i.e., Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and Army Regulations).

  • Assesses work place for occupational health hazards by observing work conditions, assessing records, conducting interviews, sampling, and monitoring chemical or physical agents. Determines appropriate monitoring and sampling strategies, as indicated, and conducts these activities. Maintains, operates, and calibrates a variety of sampling and monitoring equipment. Evaluates and interprets monitoring and sampling results, makes determinations, and develops corrective strategies. Perform qualitative and quantitative assessments of work areas.Investigates workplace accidents and close calls. Performs ventilation surveys

EDUCATION: Minnimum of High School diploma or equiv. and AA Degree in technical field, required.

(Equivalent combination of formal education and experience may be considered)

EXPERIENCE: Minnimum of two (2) years experience in personal protective equipment, hazardous material exposure, environmental monitoring methods and practices and thorough knowledge of OSHA, Federal and State regulations, required. Experience performing and coordinating asbestos, lead paint, water intrusion/mold, general industrial hygiene, H&S and/or facility-related testing and investigationing. Field experience including data collection, site observation, field documentation, desired.

CERTIFICATION: Certification recognized by the Board of Safety Professionals or American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH) highly desirable but not required.

LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada Drivers license and Security Clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
