Role Summary:

The Engineering Manager - Firmware demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. Integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within functional areas area of expertise.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Engineering Manager - Firmware, you will:

  • Grow, develop and mentor leaders & technologists by attracting, training, and motivating top tier technical talent

  • Build & maintain expectations of ownership, accountability, customer focus and quality at the individual and team level

  • Foster technical collaboration between business teams at GRC, M&C, and other experts across GE

  • Drive / Support technical integration of design engineering teams to help build one global Measurement & Control technology engineering group

  • Drive/support platform development across hardware, firmware and software.

  • Participate in strategic 3 year & short term planning for Multi Generation Technology Plans and required resource structure

  • Own functional budgets, advocating for funding necessary to execute on deliverables to create value for our customers

  • Lead the design team to achieve on-time execution of the deliverables through design reviews & tollgates, while ensuring conformance to M&C design practices & procedures, assuring product quality

  • Lead cooperative research programs with universities to establish long term sustained relationships that provide opportunities to recruit engineers with embedded software expertise

  • Be responsible for Employee Development & Performance Management

  • Drive "No excuses" leadership culture with integrity and EHS

  • Build and maintain expectations of ownership, customer focus, and quality at the individual and team level Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Software, or Engineering degree from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum 10 years of Engineering experience

  • Minimum 1 year management / leadership experience in a matrix structure organization Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in firmware / embedded systems development and maintenance

  • Minimum 3 years experience in firmware platform development

  • Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives

  • Proven strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization

  • Proven leadership capabilities with ability to motivate others and achieve results within a highly technical environment

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and lead design & development projects
